The Glen of Imaal Terrier is a sturdy dog that resembles the Welsh Corgi in that it is low to the ground with short legs. The head is in proportion to the body.

The skull is broad and slightly domed, tapering toward the eyes. The muzzle is strong, tapering toward the black nose. The stop is pronounced. The teeth meet in a level or scissors bite. The round, medium-sized eyes are brown. The ears are half-pricked or rose. They are wide-set on the back of the top outer edge of the head, held on the back of the head when the dog is alert. The bowed legs are short and well boned.

The tail has a strong base and is either docked or left natural. When docked it is cut to about half its length. Note: docking tails is illegal in most parts of Europe. The harsh coat is medium length with a soft undercoat.

Temperament: Courageous, Gentle, Loyal, Agile, Active, Spirited

Health Problems: Slightly prone to hip dysplasia, PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) and flea allergies.
